On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation, revealing that the next-generation Goods and Services Tax (GST) reforms will be implemented at sunrise.
He stated, "As we welcome the festival of Navratri tomorrow, I wish everyone well. This marks a significant advancement towards Aatmanirbhar Bharat, with the new GST reforms taking effect on the first day of Navratri."
The Prime Minister also mentioned, "The 'GST Bachat Utsav' will kick off nationwide starting tomorrow. This initiative will enhance your savings and allow you to purchase your favorite items. The 'GST Bachat Utsav' is designed to benefit all segments of society."
He expressed, "During this festive season, everyone will enjoy sweet moments. The happiness of every family in the country will increase... I extend my warmest congratulations and best wishes to millions of families for the next-generation GST reforms and the 'Bachat Utsav'. These changes will boost India's growth, simplify business operations, attract investments, and ensure that every state plays a vital role in the development race."
PM Modi emphasized the government's commitment, stating, "The journey of GST reform began in 2017, marking a shift from an outdated system to a new era. For years, our citizens and traders were caught in a complex web of multiple taxes. Various taxes like octroi, entry tax, sales tax, excise, VAT, and service tax created hurdles. Transporting goods from one city to another involved navigating numerous checkpoints."
